Mike Marshall gives a mandolin workshop and Darol Anger gives a fiddle workshop at the Unitarian Fellowship, 87 4th St., Ashland, on Saturday, January 21, 10 a.m. to noon.  Open to intermediate to advance players.  Workshops take place simultaneously in separate rooms.  Cost is $40.  Register at www.stclairevents.com or 541-535-3562.

 

Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Darol Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous pathbreaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, and other ensembles. Today Darol can be heard on NPR's "Car Talk" theme every week. He has recorded and produced scores of important recordings since 1977, is a MacDowell and UCross Fellow, and has received numerous composers' residencies and grants. He is a featured soloist on dozens of recordings and motion picture soundtracks.

 

Mike Marshall is a master in a variety of musical styles including Bluegrass, Classical, Swing and Brazilian music. He has recorded and toured with some of the greatest acoustic innovators of our time including David Grisman, Tony Rice, Mark O'Connor, Stephane Grappelli, and Jerry Douglas.
