Come and celebrate the holiday season together for our Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) Holiday LUNCH Potluck on Saturday, Dec. 11th from 12 - 3:30 p.m. at the Bellview Grange in Ashland. We will be eating after we've labeled our dishes with ingredients and circled up to share a little about ourselves and the food we brought to contribute to the group. Please bring a WAP appropriate dish to share or talk to me about other ways you can contribute to the event.More on Food Contributions:Since the WAPF is an organization that strives to promote the growing and consuming of nutritionally dense, quality foods, I ask that we all adhere to the principles and values of the WAPF in our food contributions. For more about the Weston A. Price Foundation, please see http://www.westonaprice.org/about.htmlI encourage people to really think about what foods they would like to contribute to the feast and know that a card with ingredients will need to be included by your dish so that those folks who are avoiding certain ingredients can skip any foods that may not be in line with what their body needs. Some examples of foods that are especially welcome include gluten free, night shade free (some nightshades include tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplants – for more information on why avoiding nightshades may be a good idea for you see http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/1897-nightshades.html). Sugar free and grain free foods are appreciated as well as fresh, local, organic, biodynamic, organic home grown foods. As usual, if you're coming to the potluck - or are on the local WAPF list - it most likely goes without saying that any foods with extensive processing, white flour, white sugar, or vegetable oils such as canola, soy, or corn oils, as well as any hydrogenated oils (trans fats) are not what we want to see...or EAT! :-)I mention this information to increase the enjoyment of many of our members who have asked me to make this clear to the larger group. I do not intend for any of the above suggestions to dissuade anyone from participating. Remember, a lovely contribution could be as simple as some organic broccoli (or other favorite organic vegetable) that's been steamed or sauteed in butter (or ghee, lard, tallow, coconut oil), for instance. This can be easy AND delicious AND healthful as well! So have fun with it.Other Tidbits:This event is free and open to the public and is a family friendly event. All ages are welcome! Donations for our local WAPF chapter will be gratefully accepted and will be shared with the Bellview Grange to pay for the costs of hosting this great event. Our chapter will be selling copies of WAPF President, Sally Fallon's information packed cookbook, "Nourishing Traditions" for $25.00 (regularly $27.00). These make excellent holiday gifts for friends and family - and yourself if you don't have a copy yet! All proceeds will benefit our local WAPF chapter.
