December 17th is Rumi’s URS, marking the 736th anniversary of his passing, a day of devotion and remembrance for Sufis all over the world. Known as the greatest poet of all time, the translations of his poetry are outselling all other poets in the English language. Rumi uses his poetry as a cord of connection between himself and God, referring to God as Beloved. The celebration will include music and poetry, and also the Sufi practice of Zikr Allah. Zikr is a traditional Sufi practice of Remembrance that was quite favored by Rumi himself. Zikr is a vocal practice using melody, rhythm, sacred phrase, and movement to awaken us to our true nature, which is Love. All are welcome to join the Caravan of Love and feel Rumi’s poetry open up like never before, with Richard’s spontaneous and engaging music and Khalil’s inspired renderings of Rumi’s ecstatic love poetry to God.Khalil Elliott has been a student of Sufism for 25 years and a teacher and center leader for 15 years.
