The Topic Unity in Ashland This Sunday Will Be:
"Imagine Being Kind to Yourself - It's the Key to Spiritual Protection"

Our minister, Norma Nakai Burton, drawing from the world's spiritual traditions (Buddhist, Sufi, Judeo-Christian, Native American) will lead us into a deeper look at the very real power of self-love as a key to spiritual protection.This weekend I watched a movie shown at the Univ. of Oregon campus entitled "The Anatomy of Hate". It was difficult to watch how some people are trained from a young age to hate others and to be willing to disrespect and even kill them, and how this training perpetuates hate crimes and wars all over planet earth in the name of religion.
The spiritual training we undertake just as seriously is a training in love.
Self-love involves passionately loving our whole selves, even those parts that are repressed or less acceptable.
At Unity we follow spiritual traditions which teach us to love our enemies, to pray for those who despitefully use us. Yet, we must also know the practices of spiritual protection. In addition to telling us to "turn the other cheek" and to "heap coals of love upon the heads of our enemies", Jesus also said - "Do not defend me with a sword! If I wanted to, I could call down ten thousand legions of angels to protect me." How can we be as "at choice" as Jesus was and maintain connection with your inner peace? this is the topic of this week's practical metaphysical teaching.
If we healed our inner war first, would there be any need for an outer one?

The concert is being co-produced with Unity of Ashland and Ariella St. Clair/St. Clair Productions.
