Dec. 12 is Guadalupe Day. Nearly 500 years ago Spirit revealed its self to the “Indio" peasant Juan Diego. Juan was startled by an apparition — the vision of a woman who, speaking his Nahuatl language, identified herself as the Lady of Guadalupe. The syncretism between the native American culture of Central America and the Catholic Church began.Juan Diego's vision of the Christian Mother of God addressing him, a mere peasant, as “my son,’’ and the miracle that was later demonstrated in effect turned the tables on the conquistadors by allowing Guadalupe to fill the traditional role of the Aztec mother-goddess.We will enter Christmas season with the inspiration Guadalupe.MusicHeather Hutton and Richard Williams
