In June of 2010, after more than 20 years nurturing a relationship, the Southern Oregon China Connection sponsored the very successful first annual Southern Oregon – China Tourism, Investment and Education Conference. For the 2011 Conference, Southern Oregon China Connection has invited Mr. Ma Weihua, a well-known Chinese calligrapher, to attend the conference and bring examples of his current work for display and sale.
Mr. Ma’s Calligraphy is presented on different materials in various ways from paper to wood, bamboo, china and stone. Winner of many international awards, in keeping with calligraphy practice of 40 years, Mr. Ma has explored the styles of different time periods and moved forward with further development of Chinese characters.
Around the corner at Bohemia Framing and Fine Art, on A Street, an exhibit of contemporary calligraphic work will be presented by the artist, Alok Hsu Kwang-han, an internationally acclaimed and highly original Zen calligraphic artist. His paintings are a striking synthesis of the beauty of Chinese calligraphy, the spontaneity and simplicity of Zen, as well as the evolution of Western Psychotherapy. These paintings are like Zen gates -- entering the paintings we "come home" to ourselves.
