TRANSITION TOWN ASHLAND invites you to join us at this month's ACTION PLANNING MEETING on Thursday, February 18, at 7 p.m. in the Gresham Room, downstairs at the Ashland Branch Library.»Shasta Commons:This month, members of Shasta Commons will join us at our meeting. We'll have a chance to discuss issues of shared concern, and consider what connections are possible with a nearby "sister" Transition community.»Toward the Great Unleashing:At last month's Action Planning meeting, we asked attendees to participate in a visioning process, to help TTA chart a course for the coming year. We asked people to express their passions, and we asked each of our Action Groups for a status report and a statement of their goals. We "harvested" the results of that discussion, and summarized them. You can view them onlinehere. --or in a Word file that's accessible at this Link:here. At this month's meeting, we want to build on last month's work. We want to ask the people who attend the meeting, "What could you -- or your Action Group -- do to move our community toward The Great Unleashing?" We hope that you will bring your ideas to this process.------------------------------------------------------------------------Advise the Ashland City Council to confirm funding for sustainability projectsThe Ashland City Council MAY reverse its decision to allocate funds for sustainability grants. Both Vickie Aldous --http://www.dailytidings.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100204/NEWS02/2040309/-1/NEWS07 --and Jeff Golden --http://www.dailytidings.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100206/OPINION02/2060306/-1/OPINION0201 --reported in the Tidings on the City Council's Feb 2nd decision to add a new category -- Sustainability -- to the cultural and economic development grant program and to allocate at least $12,500 for applications in that category.BUT at the end of the Council meeting, City Administrator Martha Bennett suggested that Staff would come back to Council on Tuesday, 2/16/2010, with specific wording for Council to vote on, again. Some think it is possible that a new vote could result in a reversal of last Tuesday's decision. If the issue is indeed on the Agenda, Transition Town Ashland suggests people come out for another show of support. The City Council agenda should be on the City Website by Friday, Feb. 12th, athttp://www.ashland.or.us/SectionIndex.asp?SectionID=475.The agenda will have a link to the proposal itself from the agenda item.If it is on the agenda, the public will be given an opportunity to speak. You can emphasize how important these grants are to encouraging innovative people in our community. The City Council takes these demonstrations of community interest very seriously. You can send email to the Ashland City Council at this address: council@ashland.or.us------------------------------------------------------------------------Please visit our Website at http://transitiontownashland.org/.
