Tina Malia’s prodigious talent spans many musical genres and disciplines. As a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer she has distinguished herself in styles ranging from dream pop to world devotional to electronic. Her own diverse and growing catalog of albums is complemented by studio and live work with iconic artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Jai Uttal, Kenny Loggins, India.Arie, Idan Raichel and Bassnectar.
There are two unifying factors in all of this. One is Tina’s remarkable voice. An instrument of exceptional purity, it can be as tender as an angel’s sigh or as powerful as a deep ocean current. The other unifying factor in Tina’s musical universe is her vision — an all-encompassing artistic perspective that embraces many of the world’s musical cultures, languages and spiritual traditions.
“GORGEOUS...Malia has a beautiful voice and such a skill for melding it with her gorgeous melodies. I just can't say enough about her skills as a songwriter, performer, and singer... If you are new to Tina Malia's music you will be smitten." — Amy Lotsberg, Producer, Collected Sounds
The pairing of these two artists is truly a match made in heaven. Having known each other and played together on various stages nationwide, the complementary nature of their spirit-based global music lends itself perfectly to an inspired and unique musical evening. Hans will open with a solo set of cello, looping and other instruments. Then Tina Malia will take the stage with Jared May. Hans will be joining them on a handful of selections as a featured guest artist. Tina’s songs will take you to faraway lands and bring you home to yourself simultaneously.
Hans Christian is a classically trained cellist who is also skilled with several exotic stringed-instruments, such as mohan veena (adapted sitar), the Swedish nyckelharpa, and the sarangi. While Hans has thrived as producer, multi-instrumentalist, solo and touring artist, his versatility as performer and recording artist for over 25 years has created a legacy of concerts and recordings that have touched people’s hearts around the world. His unmistakable cello playing moves the listener with a haunting beauty, and his use of live looping and various ethnic string instruments expresses a universal musical language that transcends boundaries, cultures, and generations.
A live concert with Hans Christian promises a deep listening experience — filled with virtuosic playing, heartfelt sharing, and a revelation of spirit and creativity. His 2013 appearance at the prestigious AMBIcon festival was received with critical praise. Hans recently completed the 28 city widely-acclaimed Mantrafest 2013 tour, starring Deva Premal & Miten.
“Hans Christian’s music is unique. It marries sumptuous classical elegance with a raw and profound spiritual passion. Anyone who listens to it will find in it the voice of their longing and ecstatic soul.” — Andrew Harvey
