Kicking off the first of several events celebrating Rogue Opera's 35th Anniversary in 2011, Rogue Opera will present a free event, "The Heritage of Opera," featuring vintage costumes and discussion of their history, at Valley View Vineyard in Ruch (outside Jacksonville) on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m.The vintage costumes are from various operas performed by the old Metropolitan Opera. A talk about the costumes followed by a Q&A session will be presented by Webster Young, former director of the Long Island Opera company in New York and an Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship Award winner. Young was also a founding member of Ballet in the Park and composer in residence for the State Ballet of Oregon. Noel Koran, General and Artistic Director for Rogue Opera, will also discuss upcoming events, including the main stage production of La Traviata, in late April 2011. Rogue Opera Board members and administrative staff will be on hand. Socializing, appetizers and a no-host wine bar will follow the presentations.
