Jefferson Baroque Orchestra presents "The Art of the Cornetto", music for one and two cornetts, voices, recorder, dulcian, harpsichord and organ by Riccio, Cesare, Barbara Strozzi, Frescobaldi and others. During the early Baroque the cornetto flourished as never before, only to be eclipsed by the violin and oboe. Now, as the richness of the repertoire has been explored, more people are dedicating themselves to an instrument whose sound was described by Mersenne as "a shaft of sunlight piercing the gloom of a dark cathedral". With Doug Sears, Sarah Viens and Steven Bacon, cornetts; Jim Rich, recorder, voice & dulcian; Mark Jacobs, sacbut; and directed by Margret Gries, harpsichord and organ. Tickets $10, $5 students, at the door, at jeffersonbaroque.org or call 541 592 2681
