  • I attended the last ceremony at Deer Mountain in May. It was an extraordinary and beautiful sacred experience for the many people who attended.

Deer Mountain, near Montague, is an exceptional 1,800 acre property devoted to the development as a ceremonial and healing center for gatherings of indigenous medicine people with non-indigenous people with a genuine respect and reverence for authentic indigenous-based ceremonies and teachings. The founders, Tata Erick Gonzalez and Nana Heddi Neale, are Aj Q'ij ("Staff of Light") of the Maya of Guatemala. Tata had held ceremonies with hundreds of tribal Elders during the past 30 years and will be hosting them at Deer Mountain in the coming years.

Ashlanders are welcome to join us for this very special ceremony and any future events, including a historic intertribal Youth and Elder sacred arts exchange between the Haida of British Columbia and the Maya of Guatemala in late November on the shores of sacred Lake Atitlan and many other sacred activities throughout the remaining months of 2009 and beyond.
