Telemann was Europe's most celebrated composer and his Hamburg post one of the most prestigious. His "Water Music" ("Hamburger Ebb und Fluht") was composed to celebrate Hamburg's sea power both in trade and militarily. The suite evokes the powers of sea, wind and tides, and the activities of the sea gods Neptune and the Tritons. Guest Director Michael Sand, founding director of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra
