The members of the Siskiyou Violins, a nationally-honored ensemble of young violin players from the Rogue Valley led by Faina Podolnaya, will be showing their exceptional talents as soloists on Sunday, June 12th, at Temple Emek Shalom in Ashland. This annual event is called a marathon because it will feature as many as 40 soloists – ranging in age from about 5 to 20 – playing one after another for about 4 hours, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They are sequenced pretty much by age, so come early to hear the youngest, come later – about 3:00 – to hear the more advanced, or settle in to hear them all! There is no admission charge, but all attendees are asked to bring a contribution of non-perishable food – canned or packaged – for the Ashland Emergency Food Bank. Refreshments will be served at the intermissions. Temple Emek Shalom is located at 1800 East Main Street in Ashland.

Last year, the Siskiyou Violins attended the annual national conference of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) in Santa Clara, California – as one of only two invitees selected out of hundreds of groups from across the nation that submitted audition recordings! Earlier this year, they were invited to the annual conference of the Oregon Music Educators Association in Eugene as the only violin ensemble. Next January, the Siskiyou Violins will appear again at the Craterian Theatre, and in March they will be returning to Carnegie Hall for the 2012 New York International Music Festival.

The accompanists for the violin soloists are pianists Daniel Swayze and Ashley Hoe.
