Rogue Opera singers on Segways will join Jacksonville’s 24th Annual Victorian Christmas Parade at 6pm on Friday, Dec. 3 in downtown Jacksonville. In a juxtaposition of culture and technology, singers who have performed with Rogue Opera will be dressed in Victorian costumes and gliding along in the parade on Segway PTs provided by Segway of Jacksonville. A special musical presentation by Rogue Opera singers will be given at the parade revue stand while engaged in this blending of modern and historic ambiance. The Segway PT is a two-wheeled, self-balancing mobility device invented by Dean Kamen. Produced and manufactured by Segway Inc. of New Hampshire, the name "Segway" is a homophone of "segue" (a smooth transition, literally Italian for "follows") while "PT" denotes personal transporter. Computers and motors in the base of the device keep the Segway PT upright allowing riders to lean forward to go forward, and lean back to go backward, and turn by use of a "Lean Steer" handlebar. Movement is quite intuitive, easy to learn, and appears stately or elegant in execution. For more information, contact Rogue Opera at 541-608-6400, or visit the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce web site at www.jacksonvilleoregon.org or visit the Rogue Opera web site at www.rogueopera.org.
