Dear Friends, Greetings from Sharanam. Thank you so much for "stepping up" and making these gatherings with Shyam Das possible. You are about to be Blessed with the Love of your community when you see what an amazing person he is, and all the sweetness of Bhakti Devotion and Wisdom, he brings to you and your community. If you know anything at all about the history of yoga, kirtan, meditation, and related practices in the United States, and the Western World in general, many, many, doors where, and are still being opened to us, by Shyam's guru Neem Karoli Baba. A lot of you are younger persons, but it can not be overstated about the influence that "Maharaji", (Neem Karoli Baba) has on our society, and your individual relationship to this Sacred Way of Being. Through RamDass (author of Be Here Now, and many other works), Bhagavan Das (original "white guy" kirtan wala), Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Durga Das, and many other, less well known, but equally significant devotees of Maharaji, all these practices that we now, all take for granted, were brought to us by these Spiritual pioneers and planted like seeds into our very materialistic society. Neem Karoli Baba and his devotees are directly responsible, for opening the eyes and hearts of millions of people to Yoga Path. What is truly amazing is that at this late date, the most intelligent, well educated, and knowledgeable, and entertaining of these Spiritual Luminaries, is now coming forth. He is in is late 50's, but is in excellent health, and hopefully will be with us, teaching us for many years to come. Equally amazing is the fact that he has never toured the Northwest, and you will be right in heart of this satsang. Please consider this a High Honor, and a most Auspicious Privilege. Personally i have been involved with Maharaji and his followers since 1973, and they keep on "delivering the goods", again and again. It was the most special awakening for me to meet Shyam Das last year at Bhaktifest (see www.bhaktifest.com) and realize who he is. It soon became clear that we were all going to start learning a lot more about our way of life and yogis, bhaktas, meditators, and chanters. etc etc. Speaking from personal realization here, whatever you think you may "know", may be shown to be quite fragmentary. After spending 40 years in India, Shyam Das' knowledge, writings, and understanding of all subjects Indian, and yogic, are a vast ocean, and as such, he "fills in the gaps" in between all of our individual fragments. He sees and holds "the big picture" of what we are about when practice the various forms of yoga. He fully understands, and writes books in Sanskrit about Sanskrit, and is a major translator of knowledge for westerners. We are so lucky someone so easy going, upbeat, well spoken, entertaining, and just plain fun to hang out with, coming right to our home! Please welcome him with honor and respect. It is my fondest hope that he will have a great time here, and want to return many times, for advanced trainings and workshops. You are all on the "ground floor" of this effort and as such you bring many Blessings, and Much Upliftment to yourselves, and your community! Thanks So Much Again, Namaste, - Sharanam
