Please join us on January 28th at 5:00pm at Ashland Hills Hotel for our “Shine a Light” annual yoga fundraising event. This event is to help shine a light for the millions of children, teens and women living in the shadows of sexual abuse, exploitation and sex trafficking and the commercial sex industry.
The wake of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual allegations birthed a worldwide movement. Victims of sexual assault are speaking out. This ‘me too’ has arisen with enough collective power to push through the insidious and urgent silencing force of abuse. How do we keep this soul shaking ‘no’ to sexual exploitation and abuse alive? How can we each contribute our voice, our prayers and our support to this worthy cause? “Shine a Light” is a wonderful opportunity to make a small contribution that becomes part of a huge change.
In the words of Suzanne Sterling and Seane Corn in their article for The Yoga Journal, “Each day, there are at least 3 million women and children enslaved for sex. That’s more than three times the entire population of San Francisco. Most of these victims are between 12 and 14 years old, and many are sold into slavery by their families out of desperation or misinformation. The sex trafficking industry is an estimated $32 billion gig, outdone in size only by the illegal trade of arms and drugs. And it flies mostly under the radar in many countries due to a complicated web of socioeconomic issues. It is a devastatingly prevalent but mostly hidden epidemic that can be challenging to face head on.”
No one person can do it alone. Together, we can all make a difference. Join us on January 28th at the Ashland Hills Hotel at 5:00pm. Ashland Hills Hotel is located at 2525 Ashland Street in Ashland. We will gather at the darkest time of the year to practice yoga by candlelight, in community with a common vision of making a difference. Twelve inspiring yoga teachers will each guide the participants through 108 minutes of yoga. Each participant will commit to raise $108. We invite you to support in this worthy cause. All donations are tax-deductible. You do not need to be at this event in order to make a donation or to participate.
