Shamanic Magic in Ancient JudaismOn Saturday, April 25th at 10:30 a.m., the Havurah is hosting a "Tish ‘n Nosh" with Rabbi David Zaslow. “Tish” means Rabbi’s table and “nosh” means a light meal in Yiddish. The origins of "Tish ‘n Nosh" are rooted in the Chasidic tradition. Ayala Zonnenschein, Havurah Program Director, says, "The Havurah's tradition is to gather around the rabbi’s table, enjoy a lovely bagel and lox brunch with good coffee and tea, and learn Jewish wisdom teachings from our rabbi in a very intimate setting." The topic of teaching for the Tish ‘n Nosh is “Shamanic Magic in Ancient Jerusalem.” Says Zaslow, "In Biblical times the Israelites were transforming polytheistic beliefs into the theology of monotheism that we practice today. But their ritual practices were filled with rites and practices that startle the modern imagination. Come learn about some of the practices the ancient Cohanim, the priests, used to inspire the people to believe in G-d." The event is free and open to the public. Call 488-7716 for more info or to reserve a place. The Havurah is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland.
