ScienceWorks presents its second Pub Talk, Canary in the Coal Mine, at The Playwright Public House in Ashland on May 21 at 8pm.
Migratory birds can tell us about the health of our planet. Changes in populations of birds monitored here in Southern Oregon during their annual migration provide surprising global insights. In this talk, John Alexander, Executive Director of the Klamath Bird Observatory (KBO), will review the history of conservation policy in the United States, summarize the state of the birds in our nation, and discuss how KBO improves conservation in our own backyard, the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion. He will also unveil Avian Knowledge Northwest, a new state-of-the-art decision support system, and talk about how you can contribute to bird conservation efforts in the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion.
