The Rogue Valley Peace Choir presents Journey In Peace, the Choir’s 8th Annual Concert.  The concert will be performed in both Medford and Ashland.  In Medford, the concert takes place on Friday, May 20, 7:30 pm at the Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson Street.  In Ashland the concert takes place on Sunday, May 22, 7 pm at the First United Methodist 175 N. Main Street.             Directed by Heather Hutton and accompanied by Jennifer Schloming, the choir performs a mix of songs that uplift and energize their audience.  Songs range from show tunes like “Circle of Life” from Lion King to the 70’s classic “Age of Aquarius” to the plaintive “Journey in Peace” by  Andy Beck and Ben Cohn and David Roth’s “Earth” to Holly Near’s rousing “I Ain’t Afraid.”

The Rogue Valley Peace Choir’s 24 voice Ensemble will perform Seth Houston’s “Big Bay,” leaving a healthy world for our children and  Pat Humphries and Sandy O’s, “Kilimanjaro” lamenting global warming and the disappearance of ancient ice and snow from Africa’s majestic peak.

The Rogue Valley Peace Choir engages their audience in a way that is designed to leave people hopefully joyous and inspired to create a better world.  Members of past audiences have described performances as “powerful,” “rousing” and “inspirational!”  The choir has over 100 members and practices weekly throughout the choral year culminating in its annual performances.

This past year the choir has performed at: the Gay Pride Parade; Martin Luther King Day in Ashland; Rotary Holiday party for the disabled; Grants Pass Juvenile Correctional Facility; New Year’s Labyrinth in Ashland and Blessing Mt. Ashland.  In addition the choir was awarded a 2011 Jackson County Cultural Coalition grant which has allowed concerts in several Jackson County Public Schools.

In February, the choir hosted a gala Five Choir Choral Festival, “Bound for Freedom.”  Joining the Rogue Valley Peace Choir was the Eugene Peace Choir, The Emandal Chorale from Willits, California and Ashland’s Women with Wings and the Rogue World Ensemble.  Over 150 singers performed.

Don’t miss the fun and spirit that concludes with coffee, tea and cookies at either of these fun-filled family friendly concerts.   Admission is free with donations accepted at the door.  For more information, call Carolee Buck 541-499-3223
