The Rogue Valley Peace Choir, under the direction of Heather Hutton and accompanied by Jennifer Schloming, presents it’s annual spring concert on Friday, May 21, 7:30 p.m., in Medford at the First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., and in Ashland on Sunday, May 23, 7 p.m., at the Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St. The concert is free, with donations gratefully accepted. For more information, call 541-535-3562.Entitled One in the Number, the show features nearly 100 voices singing songs to touch the heart with messages of peace, equality and loving stewardship of our planet. The repertory features songs from well-known pop composers such as Paul Simon and Laura Nyro, folk composers such as Pat Humphries, plus some world music and gospel.In its seventh year, the Rogue Valley Peace Choir dedicates the annual concert to the memory of its former director Dave Marston who died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in June, 2009. It was Marston’s fervent wish that the Rogue Valley Peace Choir continue and so it has under the direction of Hutton.Members of the Rogue Valley Peace Choir come from various musical backgrounds. A few have sung professionally, several have conducted their own choirs, and some have never sung in a choir before. As a community choir, the Rogue Valley Peace Choir welcomes everyone to come lift their voices in songs of peace and unity.New members, tenors and basses in particular, are welcome to join in early September. Practices take place every Thursday evening in the sanctuary of the Methodist Church, Laurel and No. Main. Ashland.
