Teacher: Tom WardA Permaculture Advanced Certificate Course facilitated by Tom Ward.Optical Surveying for Earthworks will practice using surveying tools that are not digital or electric. No battery devices. We will mostly use telescope-like devices and other hand tools such as A-frames, sight levels, pocket transits, builders levels and various vertical measurement rods as well as horizontal measuring tapes and walking wheels to learn swale, terrace, ditch and pond layout, pond profile cross-section drawing, keyline and trail system locating, solar assessment, ditch and wiggle water way layout, small cabin orientation and pad layout, staking and note taking, compass and map reading.Bring compasses, levels, rods, pencils, a clip board, 1/4 inch graph paper pad, engineers rule or wooden ruler, 100 meter/foot tapes and walking wheels. I have much of this but if you have any of these tools bring them and you will have more practice with your own tools. We will check the accuracy of levels by back and fore shots. A surveying vest with pockets galore would be great. There will be wood stakes but more is always good, especially tall sturdy ones. Wax lumber crayons will be preferred. Plastic tape or spray paint is discouraged. This is an advanced certificate course for Permaculture Design Course graduates. Others can have the certificate held until they have a PDC certificate. Open to all who have a working knowledge of Permaculture. We will start Fridays 10 AM at the first parking lot just up the drive of Wolf Gulch Farm, 7000 Little Applegate Road, Jacksonville, Oregon.
