Mary YoungbloodSt. Clair Productions presents Native American flutist Mary Youngblood on Friday, November 20, 8 p.m., at the Unitarian Center, 4th and C Streets, Ashland. Two-Time GRAMMY Winner and EMMY Nominee Mary Youngblood, is the first Native American woman to have received a Grammy Award for "Best Native American Music Album" -- 2002 Grammy for Beneath the Raven Moon and the 2006 Grammy for Dance with the Wind. The Spirit of Sacajawea was nominated for an EMMY for Musical Score in 2007. Youngblood, who is half Seminole and half Aleut, has 250 Native American Style flutes and uses a wide variety of them in concert. A portion of the proceeds benefit Red Earth Descendants.Mary Youngblood presents an Intermediate/Advanced/Performance Readiness Workshop on Saturday, November 21, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at the Unitarian Center, 4th and C Streets, Ashland. Mary discusses her techniques in using visualization, to assist the more advanced player in obtaining their musical goals. She teaches that even embellishments have embellishments- Mary will share advanced details of these special embellishments such as breath control, vibrato, bending the notes, and ‘the bark.’ Students will have the unique opportunity to ‘pick Mary’s brain’ about how to further advance their own flute journey.
