With the "Merchant of Venice" being staged at OSF this summer, a detailed study of this Shakespearean play is timely. Join Rabbi David Zaslow, spiritual leader of the Havurah, for a two-session course on this brilliantly written, but tragically flawed play. Using all the available stereotypes and libels against Jews (they love money more than people, they are less than human, they are driven by the devil, they seek the flesh and blood of Christians) the play was beloved in Nazi Germany. Rabbi David will analyze the roots of the play along with the history of anti-Semitism that is rooted in the distorted interpretation of Christian Scriptures. The classes will take place on consecutive Tuesdays, June 22 and June 29, from 7:30 - 9:00 PM. Fee for the class is sliding scale $3- $15 for both sessions. Pre-register at 541-488-7716. The Havurah is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland.
