Aloha! We invite you to join us for an experiential evening of journeying and discussion introducing the path of meditation and spiritual self-knowledge known as ‘Ōkupu. ‘Ōkupu is deeply rooted in the traditional wisdom and aloha of nā kūpuna—the elders and ancestors of Hawai‘i.
‘Ōkupu means to sprout, or to come forth in the manner of clouds, which may appear as if from nowhere, without source or cause.
In ‘Ōkupu meditation, we discover that, like the young plants, like the clouds, the life-force is constantly unfolding within us. This is aloha—primordial, unconditional love expressing itself as the universal creative force, the vibrant wellspring of existence. As we direct our attention inward, we are immersed in Spirit and connected to our infinite source.
‘Ōkupu meditation is inspirational, centering, grounding, and joyful. It clears our vision, focuses our intention, awakens our compassion, enlivens our creativity, and empowers our highest aspirations and best wishes for all beings (including ourselves). ‘Ōkupu brings together body, mind, and spirit, Earth, human, and Ke Akua (universal consciousness, the Creator) to send waves of healing through ourselves and outward to others, to the Earth, to the Universe. ‘Ōkupu honors the Earth, the ancestors, and the wisdom and creativity of the individual, bringing us insight, inspiration, deep relaxation, and the revival of our ancient, ancestral, Earth-connected consciousness.
Join us for a joyous and transformational journey into our radiant spiritual essence, the vibrant wellspring of life-force that empowers our existence.
About Pili
Pili (Lyn ‘Unihipiliowailelepualu Moreno Hilliard) is a traditional healer, musician, and teacher. He is of Filipino, Spanish, and Celtic ancestry, and Hawaiian by adoption. Pili is the hānai (adopted) son of Aunty Bea Nakapuahi Christian-Perin, the niece of Aunty Emma Kāne, a prominent Kahuna Lapa‘au (master healer) of the early twentieth century. Aunty Bea has freely shared her knowledge of Aunty Emma’s work with Pili. Both of these elders are a continuing source of inspiration and understanding for him.
While still in his teens, Pili became immersed in the quest to understand the nature of reality, and to discover the source of life, love, and awareness. This journey took him abroad for a year and a half of roaming in Europe and Asia. In 1971 he completed a three-month residential yoga teacher training course under the guidance of Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri. His travels also took him to the Greek Islands, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and to his spiritual home, Hawai‘i.
Since 1991, thousands of healing arts professionals from around the world have participated in his popular classes at Hypnotherapy Training Institute in Corte Madera, California, which explore the connections between indigenous healing traditions and cutting-edge hypnotherapy.
At the beginning of 2009‘Elele O Nā Kūpuna (messenger of the ancestors) Aunty Māhealani Kuamo‘o-Henry graciously conveyed to Pili a message from her ancestral spirit guides that inspired him to bring his spiritual work to a larger public. The message was this: that it is Pili’s responsibility to pioneer the reintroduction of ‘Ōkupu, a traditional path of meditation and spiritual self-knowledge that had been lost to the world for generations.
