Ashland’s own hula halau (school) Ka Pi’o O Ke Anuenue presents a holiday-themed hula show – Hula for the Holidays: Light up the Winter with the Warmth of Aloha on Saturday, December 8 at the Community Center in Lithia Park, 59 Winburn Way in Ashland. Doors open at 4:30 pm for first-come, first-served seating at this family-friendly event. Hawaiian “Plate” Dinner will be available for purchase from 5-6 pm, and includes a traditional menu of pulled pork, huli huli chicken, potato/mac salad, rice, green salad, coleslaw and tofu. Hawaiiana gifts along with baked goods will also be available for purchase. Live Hawaiian music provided by Braddah Aaron and Christmas carols will be played throughout the evening. The hula show begins at 5:30 pm and will include classic holiday hulas like “Christmas Lu’au”, “Here Comes Santa in a Red Canoe”, “Mele Kalikimaka”, and “Hawaiian Santa” and hulas to some standard holiday songs like “O Holy Night” and “Winter Wonderland”. The dancers will also perform hulas to favorite contemporary Hawaiian songs. Christmas carols will be led by Jody French of Rogue Valley Symphony, with audience sing-along welcomed! A special skit of “12 Days of Christmas – Hawai’i style” will also be part of the show. Tickets are available at the door for general seating. Adult price is $10. Kids (12 & under) is $5.
