The campaign to establish a Siskiyou Crest National Monument is gaining strength, including recent front page coverage in the Medford Mail Tribune, and KS Wild needs your help now to maximize this momentum! We are in the final stages of planning for our 90-mile Siskiyou Crest Transect this August, but we need some support from our allies to make the impact of our journey as large as it can be.We have most of the major elements underway: a media-ready, online, interactive map is in construction to provide a virtual tour of the proposed monument and our route through it, motion detector cameras are being established by scientific specialists in strategic areas along our route to document elusive forest carnivores; press packets are being prepared for release on days 1, 3, 6 and 9 that include background information on the botanical areas, important bird areas, Wilderness candidate roadless areas and more that we will be encountering along our travels. We have a photographer, botanists, climate scientists, representatives from local recreational industries, and even a professional documentary filmmaker and a professional website designer ready to donate their time to help us get the word out about protecting the Siskiyou Crest! For more details on the Crest Transect, see below. What we still do not have is quite enough funding to pull this all off. We have uncovered expenses that are crucial to this trek, from web hosting, camera gear, batteries, certain camping gear, memory cards etc. that need to be fulfilled in the next couple of weeks! If we pull this all together sooner than later, we can pitch some major news sources with a proposal for them to feature our journey in real time on their websites and publications. If you would like to help us add momentum to the Siskiyou Crest campaign through this innovative expedition, please consider sponsoring a hiker at a $30, $60 or $90 level. This is approximately $1/mile for 3, 6, or 9 days of hiking and documenting through the heart of the proposed monument. You can mail a check to KS Wild PO Box 102 Ashland, OR 97520, or call 541-488-5789 to use a credit card, or email laurel@kswild.org for more info or to arrange a donation.Stay tuned and thanks for your support!Project Description:
