Hallowe’en: Going Deeper
With Jenny Sill-Holeman and Dennis Holeman
In talk and ritual we will experience the original meaning of Hallowe’en and the honoring of our beloved dead.
How did the most important and solemn day of the year in pre-Christian Europe turn into a children’s holiday, where kids dress up to go trick or treating for candy? We will begin with a discussion of the ancient background for America’s Hallowe’en and Mexico’s Dias de los Muertos.
Our ritual will focus on remembering and talking with loved ones who have passed to the other side. You can remember relatives, friends, or other people who have been important to you. Bring mementos (photographs, other objects) that connect you with those who have gone before, including your pets, to put on the altar. Come in costume or not, as you choose.
Jenny and Dennis have been practitioners and teachers of one of the leading modern Pagan spiritual traditions for 30 years, including study of the roots of modern Paganism and extensive experience in ritual creation.
