One of the most original events of this long election season comes to Ashland on Saturday, October 4th, as the Rogue Valley’s favorite musical duo and author/commentator come together to celebrate Great Releases: the release of WANDERLUST, Gypsy Soul’s newest CD, the release of Jeff Golden’s UNAFRAID: A Novel of the Possible, and a release of creative audience from the blending of musical and political passion.WANDERLUST is the 9th CD from Gypsy Soul (songs/bio material at: http://www.gypsysoul.com), the remarkable songwriting and performance duo of Cilette Swann and Roman Morykit. They see “Great Releases” as a new kind of performance adventure. “We have always strived to produce memorable events that leave a lasting impression and offer the audience a multi-faceted experience,” Cilette says. “By co-producing this event with one of our favorite authors and activists, Jeff Golden, we feel that we can offer our music fans an exciting glimpse into community, possibility and sharing a new consciousness conversation.” Gypsy Soul’s music has been heard over 100 times on numerous TV shows and films. Cilette and Roman make their home in Jacksonville, OR when not on the road.UNAFRAID (excerpts at: www.unafraidthebook.com) is the fourth book from longtime activist, columnist and public broadcaster Jeff Golden. It invites readers to explore the boundaries of political possibility, and their own role in stretching them, with the portrait of an altered world beginning with the moment JFK survives the assassins’ bullets in Dallas and goes on to serve two full terms in the White House. UNAFRAID has been the centerpiece for a series of public events, theatrical readings and group conversations about political possibility, but this will be the first joint offering with musical artists. “I’m honored and excited to be teaming up with Gypsy Soul,” Golden says. “For one thing, they’re two of the most inspired and inspiring artists I’ve ever heard. And they care deeply about the world we’re creating together. We share a belief that we can have the world we want only if we step up and get involved and that won’t happen unless we start connecting citizen involvement with the things we love, like great live music in the company of friends. It’s a powerful and necessary combination.”Great Releases takes place Saturday, October 4, at 7pm at the Unitarian-Universalist Center at 87 Fourth Street (between B & C Streets) in Ashland. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $15 and are available at Music Coop (541) 482-3115 and Willow Creek (541) 899-5590.
