The Vigil commemorates the victims of the atom bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan on August 6 and 9, 1945. It  also recalls all the victims of the Fukushima disaster of March, 2011, and all those affected by mining, transporting, and otherwise handling nuclear materials. 

The opening ceremony, led by Associate Minister Paula Sohl of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, is at 8 am on Monday August 6 in the entrance to Lithia Park. The Nuclear Maze, a display of the ways in which nuclear activities continue to affect people and communities around the globe, will be open around the clock until 7 pm  Wednesday August 8. Speakers, music and performers will be featured, and opportunities for education, dialogue and action will be available.  The closing ceremony takes place at 7 pm on Thursday August 9 in the Japanese Garden in Lithia Park.
