World music troubadour Gina Salá & tabla drum virtuoso Daniel Paul are embarking on West Coast Kirtan Tour. Their first together traveling along the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego Nov 23rd to Dec 22nd. Having just collaborated on Daniel’s latest CD, "Tabla Mantra", Daniel & Gina will perform their own special blend of kirtan-blue-grassy-drum and harmonium driven sacred world music. Also known as mantra music , the audience will be invited to respond by singing the mantras back to the performers in an ever winding spiral of tempos, melodies and moods., From the stillness of Gina’s loving prayers, to the synchronization of Daniel’s drumming and scat singing, all hearts in the room can’t help but raise together to the rafters and beyond.
Daniel and Gina both have impressive world music credentials. Their inspired musical partnership has its roots in a mutual attraction to the rich culture of ancient India. Separate though similar as their paths have been, together Gina and Daniel now join in an inspired musical partnership for this tour.
World Music Troubadour Gina Salá is a vocalist, composer, teacher and kirtan leader with a repertoire spanning 23 languages and over 4 decades of chanting experience.
Born into a musical Acadian family, Salá began chanting at the age of 3 in an ashram. A life-long love of spirituality, Indian chanting, and the power of voice to heal and awaken has guided her life. Gina’s magnetic personality, captivating voice and wealth of musical experiences have led her from chanting with wandering sadhus in the mountains of India to programs at the United Nations in New York City, leading kirtan concerts and retreats in Japan and Asia and to the stage as lead singer for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas.
Fulbright Award winning tabla drummer Daniel Paul, studied 9 years at the renowned Ali Akbar College of Music under India’s great musical masters,(Zakir Hussain, Swapan Chaudhuri and Ali Akbar Khan). He has since traveled the world performing everything from classical recitals with India’s master flutist G.S. Sachdev, to techno raves at Burning Man. He has opened for the Dalai Lama, the plenary session of the World Parliament of Religions and for Bob Dylan with Hawaii’s legendary Henry Kapono. For over two decades Daniel has also been a highly sought after accompanist for many of today’s most gifted chant leaders including Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, Wah, The Guru Ganesha Band, Dave Stringer, C.C. White, Donna DeLory, Jaya Lakshmi & Shyamdas.
