Jerry Paschen is a first class electrician and green party candidate. An electrical contractor since 1968, he managed the LW52 Project, a 750 Kw gearless turbine for the grid through his electrical company. In his latest venture with Windsong Energy Inc., he visualizes a society with a majority of its energy generated by wind and the parking lots are filled with electric rechargeable cars while their owners work and sleep.Paschen points out that up to 15% of European countries' power is wind generated, Oregon is 5th in the nation but still generates around 41% of its electricity from burning coal. Oregon, with a population of 3 million plus, has 1585 Mw on the grid, which is very impressive. Conservation of electrical power and learning to use renewable energy like wind, which leaves a small footprint on our planet, and CO2 emission reduction projects are a must! Paschen states that we don't have to go back to the "stone age" to live a more sustainable lifestyle; rather, we should look more into the future. One advantage of harnessing wind power is that it takes less than a year to put up a turbine, while a coal burning plant could take up to 10 years with planning, engineering and construction. Another advantage, a turbine can pay for itself in only four years, or a 24 year life expectancy.Ashland has a good wind power potential, there is a place for a 3.8 Mw wind farm. He is looking 3 years down the road for investors.Paschen grew up in Berlin, where he believes his fascination with electricity began, as he regularly rode the electric street car, which he recalls, "takes off like a rocket."
