Meet at the Trailhead to Hedge Creek Falls. This shady trail provides an easy walk to an amazing waterfall. Along the way, Cara Saunders, herbalist/owner of Bear Wallow Herbs will show us some local plants that are important herbal remedies. We will see Oregon Grape root with its blue grape-like berries and bright yellow roots, which can be used as an herbal anti-biotic and to support healthy digestion. We will also see California Spikenard, a native herb that grows 6-10 feet tall, with its roots right in the creek. The plant makes globes of white flowers that turn into tiny dark purple berries which can be made into an herbal remedy that helps people adapt to stress. Just visiting California Spikenard in the creek next to a waterfall will be a stress relief for sure!
