Many of us want to move into new paradigms of love and relationship. How might we wean ourselves from the myth of romantic love? How can we keep the beauty of romance and yet break the spell of its illusion? How might we drop projections and expectation of the Other? How can we move away from family of origin issues in our marriages? How can we grow as individuals in our relationships? How can we get over what John Bradshaw calls "Post-Romantic Stress Disorder"? How does the "Battle of the Sexes" play into our relationships? What does the statement 'only those who are already married can actually get married' mean? What is the relationship between love, loss and dependency? How do affairs fit in? These are some of the mysteries that we will be exploring in this class. Using films as a springboard for discussion, we will weave in philosophical, psychological, sociological and Jungian thought, and explore the questions together. This class would be appropriate for virtually anyone - couples (unmarried or married) and single women or men, or those in a couple coming without their partner - anyone who is interested in the subject of relationship. Although the films and articles are mainly from a heterosexual perspective, the ideas and principles fit same-sex situations as well.Cost: $15 – 40, sliding scale, per session. Payment is due for missed classes. These classes will be limited to 10 participants, meeting 7 Sundays, once a month, 1-5pm,to be held at my home in Ashland.Dates: January 24 - February 28 - April 4 - April 25 - May 30 (to be discussed, if Memorial Day weekend is a too much of a problem for attendance)- June 27 - July 25
