Oasis is excited to announce the commencement of Ecstatic Dance Ashland. Beginning this January 5th, and on the first Saturday of every month at 9am, a yoga class will be offered followed by a two hour free form dance session. The yoga will be taught by a revolving cast of both local and guest teachers, and the dance will be guided by DJ's from the West Coast and beyond.
The Ecstatic Dance Community movement was inspired by the Ecstatic Dance Big Island, which began on the dance floors of the Kalani retreat center in the Puna district of Hawaii's Big Island by Max Fathom in 2000. Max had learned of Gabrielle Roth's 5 Rhythms and a form of movement known as Conscious Dance through Body Choir in Austin, Texas. Have attended Burningman he was also deeply moved by the electronic dance music community and found a desire to merge the worlds of ecstatic dance and the DJ underground.
The torch has been carried at Kalani by several key facilitators over time, including Max, Elizabeth, Sprocket, Craig Kohland (Shaman's Dream) and others.
What Kalani's Blue Moon Room, and EMAX was to EDance Big Island, with it's open air tent and hardwood dance floor by the Ocean... ...Sweet's Ballroom is to the Ecstatic Dance East Bay.
and So it Began in the Bay...
The Ecstatic Dance brand is open source and costs nothing to franchise. It's now popping up in cities all over the world and has been providing yoga and dance enthusiasts with an extremely loving, honoring, open place to call home.
