Drumming Playshop with Hope
Rhythm for the Whole Being
Thursday, August 16th, 2012 6pm-9pm
Pioneer Hall
73 Winburn Way, Ashland, OR (at entrance to Lithia Park)
Hope is excited to return to Ashland for a special evening that will include drum techniques for the body and spirit, along with games and stories. Covering one rhythm in depth for the first 2 hours (6pm-8pm), we will then transition into a community drum jam, peppered with stories and games, for the last hour. Come for the lesson, jam or both!
This playshop will teach you about the rhythms of the drum, and how to bring out the rhythm each of us carries inside. Through gentle, tried-and-true teaching techniques and games, the vast world of hand drumming will be explored. We will cover tips on technique and solos, an in-depth look at one rhythm, and the rich and diverse African culture around the drum.
Drumming is a fun and rewarding way to learn about oneself and other cultures, as well as to share in community. Hope's Holistic Drum promotes the drum and rhythm as a means of en-lightening the whole being.
This playshop will...
- Illustrate rhythm in everyday life
- Explore examples of rhythm
- Learn a specific rhythm and how it interweaves with others
- Gain a sense of how these rhythms are played and used in Africa
- Have fun in community!
