Cuba lost its main source of oil when the Soviet Union folded in the early 1990's. The challenge of creating a new low-energy system was met with commitment and ingenuity, and a more sustainable society evolved. Smaller organic farms and urban gardens replaced large-scale petroleum-based agriculture.

Discussion will include:

   * The fifty-year US blockade of Cuba

*The Cuban Five, imprisoned for 13 years in the US

*The Cuba Caravan, an annual project of friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people, organized by Pastors for Peace, due in Ashland in early July. Doors open at 6:45--all are welcome. Questions? call 541-482-8915.
