MAESTRA is a stirring documentary about Cuba's literacy campaign in 1961. Thousands of high-school and college students went to rural areas across the island to teach reading and writing. For many this was their first time away from home, parents and city life. Their new experiences transformed their lives, as present-day interviews reveal. Fascinating archival footage completes the picture.

All are welcome. Q & A and discussion about this year's Cuba Caravan and the Cuban Five will be included.
