In2009, Smither released Time Stands Still, the eleventh studio album of a career that nowspans over four decades. Time Stands Still  is bothpensive and visceral – an album whose songs alternately ponder life's mysteriesin some moments, and let them lie undisturbed in others. The CD features eightnew original compositions and a song apiece from Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, and1920s country-blues songster Frank Hutchison.

Smither'sfirst album, I'm A Stranger Too!,was released in 1970. After the 1972 release of Don't Drag It On, Smither struggled with alcoholism and didn'trelease another album until he had fully recovered 12 years later. Smither’ssongs have been covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and DianaKrall.. Raitt’s anthem "Love You Like a Man" and "I Feel theSame" were both written by Smither.

"Witha weary, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style, Mr.Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to makepeace with fate." NEW YORK TIMES

"ChrisSmither is America's great blues poet, a master acoustic guitarist whose musicsuggests the power of Son House and a wisdom informed by the Four Noble Truthsof Buddhism." AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN
