The subject of bullying continues to be part of a national conversation; we are inundated with stories about young people and the impact of bullying, which include depression, truancy, poor grades, violence and even suicide. This year we have received a record number of requests to present our program in the community. To continue to provide this valuable training we need to inspire and prepare more volunteers. Have you been looking for a volunteer opportunity that is both rewarding skill building? Choicepoint, a bully awareness and bystander empowerment training developed at Mediation Works has been taken to schools all over southern Oregon since 2005. This day-long training will give volunteers the knowledge and confidence to work with our team bringing ChoicePoint to local schools. Studies show that most of the time bullying takes place there is no adult present. ChoicePoint teaches students to be effective bystanders. We use a male and female co-facilitator model.
This training includes:
- Learning the dynamics of bullying, social bullying and cyberbullying
- Understanding of who gets targeted and how it plays out for both genders
- Examining the continuum of choices that students have when confronted with bullying situations
This training is only offered once per year and is scheduled for August 16, 2012 from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm in Medford. The cost of the training is $20 and includes lunch and materials.
