“Wobbly Walk through the Siskiyous” will be presented by SOU History Professor Jay Mullen on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 4 p.m. in the Meese Room (#305) of SOU Hannon Library.
“Wobbly” is the nickname for members of the labor union known as the Industrial Workers of the World. Mullen’s story is about brave young men who voluntarily, for the cause of free speech, walked 150 miles south over the Siskiyous when denied train passage in Ashland on February 17, 1911.
An exhibit case on the library’s first floor displays books and memorabilia of the early labor movement. Singer-songwriter Patrick Dodd will open the program with a short performance of traditional labor ballads of the era.
This free program is sponsored by the Friends of Hannon Library. For information, call 541-552-6835.
