The Grand Opening for Cathy Dorris Studios is Friday, May 6th., 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm, during Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk. Cathy Dorris Studios is an art teaching studio and gallery, in Ashland’s Railroad District at 130 A Street, upstairs above Culture Works. The business has been located in Talent for the last six years and is now moving to Ashland to expand into a commercial space.
Cathy Dorris Studios will host gallery shows, art events and offer mixed media art classes, geared to both beginning and professional artists, using a variety of materials and mediums -- including raw elements from the earth, recycled materials and found treasures. She will also be offering instruction in the art of Japanese Sumi-e painting.
Cathy Dorris is an internationally recognized art teacher and mixed media artist with a passion for helping people rediscover their “inner artist.” She delights in showing her students how to take mundane objects and turn them into gallery worthy pieces of art. “Beginners should not be deterred,” she says, “I can help anyone become an artist . . . if they are willing.”
For 25 years, Cathy Dorris has been teaching in schools, art as therapy, holding workshops in mixed media painting, Japanese sumi-e, collage, sculpture, assemblage, and fiber arts. Her work has been published in magazines and newspapers, and shown in galleries in Seattle, Portland, and Southern Oregon. Cathy is also an instructor with Art Is … You – East Coast and West Coast Retreats, and Art and Soul Retreats -- both associations which hold international mixed media art workshops.
