Teacher: Richard WatersThis is a full day, hands-on workshop on how to make your own Camping Yurt.Camping Yurts are not the permanent kind you see in many State Parks and Campgrounds. They are lightweight and portable and can be loaded onto the smallest of roof racks. Being easily put up and taken down, they are the perfect "tent" for camping, extra accommodation in the back yard, summer workshops, temporary shelters and even for weddings!.Yurts can be made from a variety of wood; hazel or willow coppice, reclaimed timber or wood bought from a Lumber Yard. The workshop covers the making of all the parts: Roof Wheel, roof poles, lattice wall and door frame. Although we will not be ripping wood and using machinery, you will learn how to use a traditional shave horse, draw knife and spokeshave to shape and form the wood. Over the course of the day we will be making and erecting a complete yurt and also cover alternative methods of making the beautiful roof wheel. No real woodworking skills are necessary for the workshop and all hand tools will be supplied. Expert tuition and advice are provided by Richard and plans & instructions will be given to all participants to take home with them.Richard is originally from England where he learned traditional yurt building. He now lives lives in the high desert of Central Oregon with his wife and family. A keen woodworker and traditional crafts enthusiast, his skills extend to traditional wood & canvas canoe building. He has been making yurts since 2002.Cost: $100.00, includes lunch, Register online.Questions: Richard Waters, 541 410-1630 • richard@campingyurts.com
