Bill Tapia – St. Clair Productions presents Bill Tapia, 101-year-old ukulele master, and Mihana, Hawaiian and traditional jazz singer, in concert on Friday, September 25, 8 p.m., at the Unitarian Center, 4th and C Streets, Ashland In the 1920s and 30s, Bill Tapia performed with many of the biggest names in Hawaiian music and pioneered a unique style of jazz ukulele playing. Today he is a living link to some of the earliest ukulele makers and players. Tapia took up the ukulele again in his 90s, recording 3 CDs. Mihana Souza is the daughter of the Hawaiian composer Irmgard Farden Aluli, who composed over 400 songs. Mihana performed in her mother’s group Puamana for 23 years. Ka Pi'o O Ke Ānuenue under the direction of Andrea Lucesse will dance to some of the music.
