Learn everything you need to know to start your own backyard nursery.In this half day course you will create custom soil mediums, experiment with seed treatments, take cuttings, graft fruit trees, and learn a variety of techniques for multiplying our photosynthesizing friends. We will also discuss plant selection, cost cutting coldframes and greenhouses, improvisation, food security, and the many shortcuts for obtaining free or inexpensive plasm.Focus will be on food plants, medicinal herbs, natives, and whatever else we can find. Feel free to bring seeds or cuttings from anything you'd like to share. Be prepared to leave with key ingredients for a food forest.Warning: Propagation can be habit forming.Jesse Hersh is a student of nature with a certificate of horticulture from Merritt College, Oakland, CA. He grew up pruning his parent's backyard orchard and loves working in trees. He currently gardens in Ashland and pursues a graduate degree in environmental education with an emphasis in botany.
