You are in for an exceptional treat in August, when dance instructor Frank Anderson from Seattle, joins with my teacher Wade Peterson from the Bay Area in Ashland for the first (and maybe only) time, to share their vast knowledge of African Percussion and Culture, to the delight of us lucky folks in the Rogue Vally!Frank has lived in Africa and studied extensively with Famadou Konate, and Wade is an instructor at the San Francisco Ballet, among the other many activities on his long list of musical credentials. These classes will introduce you to and/or expand your awareness and knowledge of the drums and rhythms of the Djembe and Dunun. Covering the fundamentals of hand technique, key rhythmic exercises and 1 or 2 traditional rhythms, songs and arrangements, the pace of these classes is tailored to each student’s individual experience level. African rhythms are comprised of multiple parts of varying difficulty, and Wade & Frank know how to select and adapt parts for each person's specific learning needs. Plus they both have a huge repertoire of the songs associate with the rhythms and would be happy to share those with us!Then, explore the rhythms and culture of West Africa through movement and dance in this fun and high energy dance playshop. Both teachers have studied the music and dance of Africa in depth for more than 20 years, and bring their insight and knowledge to the classes with kindness and humor. So, be prepared to have a delightful afternoon, groove out, and learn a lot with these gifted teachers.12:30pm-2:00pm All Level Djembe2:15pm-3:45pm All Level Dunnun4:00pm-5:30pm All Level DanceEarly Bird Special!$48 for all 3 classes$34 for two$18 for oneWalk Up$54 for all 3 classes$38 for two$20 for oneAdvance price valid by check or paypal before August 10thWade Peterson is a musician and teacher with 32 years of experience in many styles who received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from UC Santa Cruz in 1992.
