A full day of African Percussion & Dance
with
Wade Peterson & Frank Anderson
A date not to be missed!
Saturday, August 6th, 2011 11am-6pm
Pioneer Hall - Ashland

Excellent African drum and dance instructor Frank Anderson from Seattle, along with West African percussion teacher extraordinaire Wade Peterson from the Bay Area had so much fun sharing their knowledge of drum, dance and West African Culture in Ashland last year that they have agreed to come back again this year, and this time for a full day of teaching on August 6th!

These classes will introduce you to and/or expand your awareness and knowledge of the drums and rhythms of the Djembe and Dunun and will cover hand technique, key rhythmic exercises, traditional African rhythms, songs and arrangements. Wade & Frank are experts at how to select and adapt parts for students's specific learning needs, although people should have a basic understanding of how to play the djembe or dunnun for the intermediate classes.

We will then explore the rhythms and culture of West Africa through movement and dance in this fun and high energy dance playshop, also catered to student's levels. Plus both teachers have a huge repertoire of the songs associated with the rhythms, and will be happy to share those with us!

Frank has lived in Africa and studied extensively with Famadou Konate, and Wade is an instructor at the San Francisco Ballet, among the other many activities on his long list of musical credentials.
