2009 AIFF Documentary Food, Inc. Returns to Varsity Theatre Friday, July 17Don't miss two special showings of Food, Inc., the powerful 2009 Ashland Independent Film Festival documentary the LA Times called "essential viewing." The film will continue the AIFF's Monthly Film Series Friday, July 17 at the Varsity Theatre at 6:00p and 8:20p. These screenings will benefit the non-profit film festival and are made possible by Coming Attractions Theatres. How much do we really know about the food we buy at our local supermarkets and serve to our families? Even if you think you've heard it all, the facts about our nation's food industry will surprise you. Food, Inc. tells the story of how our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto).Tickets are discounted 25% for AIFF members and available now at the Varsity Theatre Box Office. The festival's monthly series features Southern Oregon premieres and encores of film festival favorites showing on selected Fridays through November at the Varsity.
